MATTHEW S. GIBBS is a trial lawyer with more than two decades of experience representing public and private clients in a wide variety of matters. Mr. Gibbs specializes in litigating personal injury and premises liability lawsuits. He has secured numerous verdicts and decisions in favor of clients, including as lead counsel in state and federal court trials, through summary judgment or other dispositive motions. Mr. Gibbs has written and argued Appeals before California Courts of Appeal.

Prior to joining Tharpe & Howell, LLP, Mr. Gibbs served as an Assistant State Attorney in Florida where he litigated criminal and environmental matters. He also successfully ran a small business litigation firm, and worked for the Litigation Department of Sempra Energy dealing with premises liability and negligence cases.

Mr. Gibbs received his B.A. degree in History from UC Berkeley in 1984, and his J.D. degree from Southwestern University in 1994. Mr. Gibbs also subsequently obtained a B.S. degree in Biology from Barry University in 2005. Mr. Gibbs is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) which was formed to foster improvement in the ethical and technical standards of practice in the field of advocacy and to promote litigant’s right to a jury trial.
